Social Phobia Test: Do I Have Social Phobia?
Hello,
We are Sayu Mental Health Clinic, dedicated to helping you express your
emotions.
If you find it difficult to interact with people, or if you often
experience extreme anxiety and fear when presenting in front of a large crowd,
it could be a sign of Social Phobia (also known as Social Anxiety
Disorder). Social Phobia can cause severe physical and mental distress,
starting with symptoms such as cold sweats or stuttering. As the condition
progresses, it can lead to chest tightness and even difficulty breathing. Early
intervention is crucial, so today, we will guide you through the initial symptoms
and provide a self-test to help you assess the condition.
What is Social Phobia?
If you often feel your face turning red or become restless when standing
in front of people, you may wonder whether you are simply shy or if you have Social
Phobia. Social Phobia refers to a condition where individuals find it difficult
to interact socially, avoid social situations, and feel the need to isolate
themselves from others. Without proper management in the early stages, Social
Phobia can become chronic and lead to secondary mental health conditions like
depression or insomnia.
Symptoms of Social Phobia
The symptoms of Social Phobia can be divided into psychological and
physical symptoms.
Psychologically, individuals with Social Phobia may feel intense nervousness in
social situations, which can escalate into anxiety or depression. Physical
symptoms often accompany these psychological symptoms, including trembling
hands, a quivering voice, blushing, digestive issues, and bloating. In more
severe cases, individuals may experience panic attacks, accompanied by cold
sweats and chest tightness.
Causes of Social Phobia
Social Phobia can be triggered by psychological, social, and neurological
factors. Psychological causes include excessive tension leading to frequent
mistakes and low self-esteem. Social causes may involve a negative upbringing,
overly strict parental guidance, or stress from excessive work or academic
pressure. Neurological causes include imbalances in the secretion and
functioning of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, GABA, and norepinephrine.
These factors result in brain function imbalances. When these imbalances accumulate, it can interfere with the hippocampus and brainstem, which control anxiety and fear responses, leading to symptoms of Social Phobia. Other contributing factors include environmental and constitutional influences.
Social Phobia Self-Test
If you frequently struggle with social interactions or tend to avoid
people, it may be a sign of Social Phobia. You can assess your condition using
the following self-test. If any of the symptoms below apply to you, we
encourage you to visit our clinic for a detailed consultation and treatment.
